(Lancaster, PA) The Fulton Theatre wraps up its historic 160th Anniversary Season with the dazzling Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The production is directed and choreographed by the Fulton’s Artistic Director, Marc Robin and features a cast of 19 and two alternating choruses of 30 local children.

Joseph is a flashy, modern musical retelling of the Biblical story of Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers. His story of faithfulness and rise to prominence and eventual reconciliation with his family has been a basis of Judeo-Christian theology from ancient times to the present. Told with a tongue-in-cheek sendup of pop culture, Joseph… has proven to be one of the most popular works of musical theatre around the globe.

Starring in the title role of Joseph is Nathan Meyer, who recently appeared as the Production Tenor in the Fulton’s production of Singin’ in the Rain. He is joined by Abby Mueller as the Narrator (Fulton: Ellen in Miss Saigon, Fantine in Les Misérables) and Steve Czarnecki as the Pharaoh (Fulton: Miss Saigon; Nat’l Tour: Beauty and the Beast)

The cast also features Joey Abramowicz (Fulton: Miss Saigon, A Chorus Line) as Judah, Sal Bucci as Dan, Kevin Curtis (Fulton: A Chorus Line) as Simeon, Casey Garvin as Asher, Andrew Kindig (Fulton: Singin’ in the Rain, Hairspray) in the roles of Jacob, Potiphar and Butler, Edward Andrew Lawrence as Zebulun, Gabriel Malo (Fulton: A Chorus Line) as Gad, Alex Pepper (Fulton: A Chorus Line) as Benjamin, Michael Pilato as Reuben, Lisa Rumbauskas (Fulton: Brigadoon, Carousel, Hello Dolly) as Mrs. Potiphar, Nathaniel Shaw (Fulton: A Chorus Line, Oklahoma) as Levi, Cody D. Smith (Fulton: A Chorus Line, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) as Issachar, and Ben Cullen Walker as Napthali.

The ensemble includes Danika Bigley, Whitney Meyer and Liz Schmitz.

Rounding out the company are two alternating children’s choruses, which are simultaneously enrolled in the Fulton’s innovative Production Lab project. As part of the Fulton Academy of Theatre, the Production Labs teach many aspects of stagecraft in addition to the performance opportunity the students receive in the production.

The creative team includes Music Director Aaron McAllister, with scenic design by Robert Andrew Kovach, lighting designed by Paul Black and costumes designed by Colleen Grady.

(Lancaster, PA) The Fulton Theatre continues its 160th Anniversary Season with the flashy, bold show business musical Dreamgirls, representing the first time the show will be produced or presented in the Lancaster region. Dreamgirls is a co-production with Maine State Music Theatre and is directed and choreographed by the Fulton’s Artistic Director, Marc Robin. “This is a show I have wanted to produce at the Fulton since I first got here,” says Marc. “To me, it is the quintessential American rags to riches Cinderella story. Its themes of starting with nothing, but finding the way to the top through talent and perseverance are universal. Dreamgirls is a triumph of the human spirit.”

The plot focuses on the rise of the Dreamettes—loosely inspired by Motown stars such as Diana Ross and the Supremes. That trio of singers consists of Deena Jones, played by Britney Coleman who recently played the role in the Marriott Lincolnshire’s production of Dreamgirls, also directed by Marc Robin; Lorelle Robinson, played by Trista Dollison (Broadway: The Lion King, Porgy and Bess, Easter Mysteries); and perhaps the most iconic character from the musical, Effie, will be played by Bryonha Marie Parham, (Broadway: Porgy and Bess, Ragtime; extensive regional credits.) Effie is eventually replaced by singer Michelle Morris, played by Karissa Harris (Fulton: Hairspray; Disney Cruise Lines, numerous regional credits).

The cast also features Byron Glenn Willis as Curtis Taylor, Jr. (Marriott Lincolnshire, Goodman, numerous Chicago credits); Kelvin Roston, Jr. as James Thunder Early (Marriott Lincolnshire: Dreamgirls; Goodman Theatre, numerous Chicago credits); Eric B. Anthony as C.C. White (Fulton: Hairspray; Broadway: Mary Poppins, Hairspray, The Lion King); ; Paul-Jordan Jansen as Wayne; and Trinity P. Murdock as Marty.

The ensemble includes Brian Bohr, Steve Calzaretta, Antoinette Comer, Elgin Giles, Laurel Haitoff, Jeremiah Haley. Terance Reddick, Khadijah Rolle, Britton Smith and La’Nette Wallace and Tamara Young.

The Music Director is Jason Wetzel, with scenic design by Robert Andrew Kovach, lighting designed by Paul Black and costumes designed by Kurt Alger.

Dreamgirls runs from April 23rd to May 12th. Regular ticket prices range from $20–$65 and are available through the Fulton Box Office at 717-397-7425 or online at www.thefulton.org.

LES MISÉRABLES

(Lancaster, PA) Marc Robin, the Artistic Director of the historic Fulton Theatre in downtown Lancaster, has announced the company’s lineup for its 2013/2014 main stage Season. The lineup includes a Victorian thriller, one of the first regional productions of a Disney hit musical, a classic comedy starring two favorite actresses of the Fulton’s audience, an electrifying Mel Brooks hit musical, a portrait of a beloved cultural icon, and one of the most popular, epic musicals ever written.

“I can’t think of a more joyous season—there’s fun at every turn. The plays and musicals I’ve chosen for next season are hugely popular,” said Robin. “I wanted to listen to my audience and let them know they’re going to have a good time. I really want the Fulton to be a place where people can go see a high level of quality theatre and for our audiences to feel like they are part of a special event.”

About the Season:

Perhaps the scariest play ever written

The Woman in Black

By Stephen Malatratt
Based on the novel by Susan Hill
October 15–November 3, 2013

Everyone knows the Fulton Theatre is haunted. In fact, some say it’s the most haunted site in Lancaster County. But come this fall a new ghost will take up residence. She is the Woman in Black and she has been terrifying audiences for a quarter of a century. Critics in London hail this play as “one of the most brilliantly effective spine-chillers you will ever encounter.” —The Daily Telegraph. It combines one of the greatest ghost stories ever written with the spookiness that only a live theatrical event can create. Set in an old theatre at the turn of the last century, the Fulton is the perfect setting for this perfectly haunting thriller. Featuring two actors, fourteen characters and one ghost, The Woman in Black will have your heartbeat racing and your hair standing on end. Are you up to the challenge?

The Fulton Theatre Production of
Disney’s and Cameron Mackintosh’s

Mary Poppins

A Musical based on the stories of P.L. Travers
And the Walt Disney Film
November 19–December 29, 2013

“It’s a jolly holiday with Mary!” This holiday season we invite you and your family to jump through a magical painting into the fantastical world of Mary Poppins. The Fulton is one of the few theatres in the country that has earned the rights to produce this international hit. The show is pure confectionary fun, with songs you know and love, like “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “A Spoon Full of Sugar,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Feed the Birds” and countless other merry melodies. All the fun of the film is brought to life on stage in a lavish production, chock full of dancing chimney sweeps, an eclectic array of colorful characters, spectacular singing, eye-popping sets and costumes, and of course, a flying nanny like none you’ve ever met. Mary Poppins will soar high above our audiences and the show will soar right into your heart.

The Murderously hilarious classic comedy

Arsenic and Old Lace

By Joseph Kesselring
January 28–February 16, 2014

Meet the Brewster sisters. On the surface they are innocent, charming, kind and loving spinster aunts. But there’s more than meets the eye in the Brewsters’ boarding house. From the adventures of their brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, to the romantic antics of their beloved nephew Mortimer, to the shocking secrets buried in the basement, nothing is quite as it seems. This play has become a true comedy classic that has delighted and entertained audiences for decades. Don’t miss one of the best loved plays ever written. Be careful not to drink the Brewster sisters’ wine, but don’t miss their invitation to tea!

The New Mel Brooks Musical

Young Frankenstein

Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan
Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks
March 11–30, 2014

This show is simply a laugh riot. Faithfully adapted from the beloved Mel Brooks film, Young Frankenstein brings all the familiar, zany characters to life on stage, including a very large, very green monster. You’ll laugh along to the classic duet of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” complete with a tap dancing chorus. Come and see how a simple hayride becomes a complete musical adventure where an entire village goes crazy…with dance! Young Frankenstein is an electrifyingly exciting, irreverently rollicking, satirically silly good time. And sometimes, that’s just what the Doctor ordered.

Meet the pioneering man behind the music

BUDDY—The Buddy Holly Story

Written by Alan Janes
April 22–May 11, 2014

The Music lives again on stage. The incredible legacy of the “young man with glasses” whose musical career spanned an all too brief period during the Golden Age of Rock and Roll, rocks on in this ever popular tribute. Follow Buddy’s meteoric rise to fame, from his humble country music roots to the top of the record charts. You’ll be cheering for more, with such rousing 1950s favorites as “Peggy Sue,” “Oh Boy,” “Maybe Baby,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “Raining in My Heart,” Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba” and the Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace”. The incredibly talented cast members are also the musicians performing on stage, and we bet they will have you dancing in the aisles!

Fulton Theatre presents a new production of
Boublil and Schönberg’s

Les Misérables

June 3–July 6, 2014

In 2009 the Fulton staged Les Misérables. The production was an unqualified hit with audiences, and for good reason. This blockbuster hit musical combines an epic story—with its universal and uplifting themes of hope and salvation—with gorgeously soaring melodies and unforgettable lyrics. We extended the run twice and shattered all box office records. It has taken us five years to get the rights to produce the show again, and we are so thrilled to bring our version back to Lancaster. With a clear focus on storytelling and spectacular singing, this extravagant production will triumphantly close out the 2013/2014 season.

Subscription packages are available through the Fulton Box Office at 717-397-7425 or online at www.thefulton.org/subscriptions.

Lancaster, PA—The Fulton Theatre continues its 2012/2013 season with the popular Broadway play Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire. Nominated for the 2011 Tony Award for Best Play, Good People presents us with a riotous and contemplative mix of characters and situations that asks us to consider the dangerous consequence of holding onto the past versus leaving it behind.

The playwright David Lindsay-Abaire described his motivations for writing the play: “The play came about really because of three separate but persistent things I couldn’t get out of my head – a lack of new American plays about class, my old neighborhood of Southie – a very working class, hardscrabble, section of Boston’s inner city – and my experiences as a poor kid attending prep school. Class is something I know about. I’ve lived it every day of my life, and it shaped me in my identity but I didn’t want to be didactic about class. We have this myth that if you work hard, you can accomplish anything. It’s not a very American thing to say, but I don’t think that’s true. It’s true for a lot of people, but you need other things to succeed. You need luck, you need opportunity, and you need the life skills to recognize what an opportunity is. I knew that if I DID decide to write about the old neighborhood, then class would inevitably bubble to the surface because it was so inherently present in the fabric of the community. And I thought if I could tap into my own experiences and memories that came out of attending that prep school, then maybe I could dramatize the topic in a way that reflected my own complicated feelings and struggles with it. So with all those ingredients stewing in the pot, I started to write. And out came Good People.”

Lancaster, PA—For the first time in its history the Fulton Theatre will make it rain on stage, in a dazzling stage effect that will bring the beloved MGM film Singin’ in the Rain to life in downtown Lancaster. The Fulton’s artistic director Marc Robin directs and choreographs. “I have directed this show six times before but I have never had the opportunity to produce it exactly as I wanted, for various reasons. I am so excited because for the first time I have the ability to spread the rain effect over the entire stage, not to mention having the absolute best cast a director could ask for.”

This production stars Fulton regular Curt Dale Clark as Don Lockwood (Sunset Boulevard, Hairspray, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Spamalot), Lauren Blackman as Kathy Seldon (Off Broadway: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Next Thing You Know, Fulton debut), Brian Shepard as Cosmo Brown (Broadway: Follies, Guys and Dolls, Young Frankenstein, Spamalot, Fulton debut) and Emily Stockdale as Lina Lamont (Geva Theater, NY Philharmonic’s Company, Fulton debut).

The production also features David Girolmo (Witness for the Prosecution, Sunset Boulevard, Sweeney Todd), Andrew Kindig (Fulton: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Hairspray, Grease), Charis Leos (Gypsy, Sunset Boulevard), Alison Manning (Fulton debut, Film: Love and Other Drugs, Pretty Little Things), Steven Charles Peterson (Hairspray, numerous roles at Maine State Music Theatre), and Katie Sina (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Hairspray, Sunset Boulevard).

The ensemble includes Nikki Allred, Jessica Ball, Patrick Graver, Ryan Patrick Lingle, Nathan Meyer, Buddy Reeder, Shain Stroff and Lauren Zapko.

Aaron McAllister continues his season-long role as Musical Director; Scenic Design by Thomas M. Ryan; Lighting Design by Paul Black; Costume, Makeup and Hair Design by Anthony Lascoskie, Jr.; Sound Design by Jacob Mishler; Props Design by Katelin Walsko. The Stage Manager is Timothy Markus and Assistant Stage Manager is Rebekah Lashof.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the much-loved film. Singin’ in the Rain follows silent movie star Don Lockwood who has everything he could ever want—fame, adulation and even a well-publicized romance with his co-star Lina Lamont. But hilarity ensues when a new kind of film alters everything, the kind of film where actors talk, sing… and even dance! The musical features a glorious score including the well-known numbers “Make ‘em Laugh,” “Good Morning,” “Moses Supposes” and, of course, “Singin’ in the Rain.”

“With songs everyone knows and loves, a call-out line that few can resist employing in other circumstances (“Sing out, Louise!”), and boundless good humor, as well as a dazzling score by Jule Styne, it’s little wonder that GYPSY is sometimes credited as the single greatest of 20thcentury musicals. As directed by Marc Robin and performed at Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, it appears to remain absolutely secure in that title.”

“[Denise] Whelan brings Rose to a full boil…
Worth the price of admission are the portrayals of three burlesque performers…
Gypsy is…entertaining with witty dialogue, great songs and a satisfying emotional payoff.”
—Sunday News

“The Fulton production, directed by Marc Robin, boasts a terrific cast… Denise Whelan does a terrific job bringing to life the world’s most infamous stage mother… Kim Carson gives a lovely performance as Louise… [Herbie] is beautifully played by Greg Wood… His understated but still powerful acting packs a punch. This is a strong, solid Gypsy, thanks to an excellent cast, and it certainly entertains you and makes you smile.”
