Students in the Fulton Academy of Theatre
The Fulton Academy of Theatre provides children and adults with professional instruction in the theatre arts over the course of four different semesters (fall, winter [including a one-week winter break session], spring, summer). Classes cover all aspects of the theatre arts, both on stage and behind the scenes. Fulton’s Academy of Theatre increases the skills and knowledge of the student with the goal of becoming a professional theatre artist, as well as the student who is using the theatre arts to develop life skills. Scholarship aid is available to those facing financial needs.
Fulton Theatre seeks to reach the demands of the 21st century work force, and we believe that our whole child approach to teaching and learning supports acquisition of both theatre arts and lifelong skills necessary for our youth to think critically and creatively, solve complex problems, and of course, collaborate. Fulton Theatre teaching artists provide a healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged environment for students.
PARENTS, in addition to making your reservation through our ticketing system (hence the references to seats), complete the online student information form, located here, before the first day of class, which links you and your child. Note: Fulton Theatre retains forms for one full season. If you submitted a form any time between June 1-May 30 of the current season, you do not need to complete the form again. Records are shredded annually, prior to the start of summer camps. Before the first day, review our Academy policies page, which serves as your first day of class letter. Here, you can find details about what to do and bring to your first class. Click here for additional information for parent/guardian(s) of students with medical and learning concerns and disabilities. Thank you!
We look forward to exploring the magic of theatre with you soon!

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat PRODUCTION LAB
A “marriage” of our main stage performers and our education department.
An opportunity for the “star of tomorrow” to train and apply their knowledge immediately to the stage! This program allows young participants to receive significant theatrical training in tandem with their on stage experience. This is designed, mostly, for those individuals who have not had extensive stage experience, and/or wish to continue their training. What is blocking, and how does an actor mark blocking into a script? How is a fight scene executed safely? Why does the stage have on an apron? What should an actor consider when developing an ensemble character? This course will provide a rising star with a safe place to find answers to these questions and many more.
Build an impressive collection of performance skills including character development, stage combat, collaboration, dancing and singing. Teaching artists will carefully craft workshops designed to prepare students to apply what they have learned while working with the production team and cast of Fulton Theatre’s mainstage production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Working with professional artists, the young performers will acquire theatre arts terminology and knowledge, hone their talents, develop ensemble skills and build confidence for the stage and life.
Student participants appear in the first part of Act One and the end of Act Two, and have a very long break between the two scenes. The production has the potential of 30 children on stage at any given performance. The LAB is designed to make the most use of participant time in the production by using guest teachers and artists to instruct the children in many different areas of theatre and engage them throughout the rehearsal and performance process. The LAB offers flexibility to the participant. Youth are “double cast,” so that they are only required ½ the time. Also, should a last minute need arise a child can miss a performance without any worry or problem.
