Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a "dry" spell. When he receives a script from a college student in the seminar he has been conducting-a thriller which Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit-Sidney devises a plan with his wife's help to offer collaboration to the student. The young man quickly accepts, and suspense mounts as the plot twists and turns with devilish ingenuity.
